Abstract

Modern teaching methodology of the development of speaking is analyzed in the article. This article displays, that making stories and their telling is the main idea of storytelling and promotion of the development of communication junior students competition. Among the main opportunities of storytelling are casual presentation, opportunities for partnership pedagogy, game form and theatrical promotion, brightness, imagery, emotionality, ease of use, promotion of public speaking skills, creating a creative environment and more. The method of storytelling can be applied at different stages of the lesson and in different types of lessons, because modern learning technologies used in the educational process of NUS, primarily aimed at developing critical thinking and speech of younger students. To develop students’ speech, the following exercises with the use of storytelling are offered: stories about a case from one’s own life, storytelling based on fairy tale illustrations, stories based on key words, storytelling during dictionary work, mini-work by analogy, storytelling «I am a hero», author’s chair, storytelling based on metaphorical maps, creative storytelling. The use of the researched method trains eloquence skills and promotes the development of such important abilities as self-confidence, the ability to stand in front of the audience, to be not only a good storyteller, but also the author of his story. Storytelling can make lessons more interesting and language learning more practical. This method allows you to go beyond the traditional lessons of speech development and provides ample opportunities for integrated learning. The advantage of storytelling as a method of speech development is that it can be used to develop many interesting exercises, adapting to the theme of the lesson, the mood and opportunities of the class, learning tasks and more. In addition, the art of storytelling will be useful in other lessons, and later – in real life situations.
