Abstract

The proposed research is devoted to studying the evolution of the part-of-speech system in contemporary Turkish. Key aspects of the formation and development of part-of-speech classification are thoroughly examined, employing various theoretical and methodological approaches. The historical context and external influences on the processes of shaping the Turkish part-of-speech system are explored. The study sheds light on a wide range of approaches to defining and classifying parts of speech in Turkish, considering different theories and concepts. Prior scholarly works on part-of-speech classification in Turkish are meticulously analyzed, alongside diverse methods and criteria for word classification. Additionally, the article highlights various methodological and research approaches applied to analyzing the part-of-speech system. A detailed analysis of the advantages and limitations of different theories and methodologies used in this context is provided. Historical and contemporary approaches to word classification are examined, comparing their strengths and weaknesses, as well as analyzing the impact of various scholarly schools and theoretical concepts on the development of part-of-speech theory in Turkish linguistics. The importance of harmonizing research methods and approaches to analyzing the part-of-speech system for a more comprehensive understanding of the structure and functioning of the Turkish language is emphasized. The article concludes by attempting to synthesize the findings and identify prospects for further research in this area, indicating possible directions for the development of the theory of part-of-speech classification in Turkish and its impact on the study of linguistics as a whole. Several important questions are raised that remain open and require further investigation, particularly regarding the structural-functional analysis of individual parts of speech, their place in the language system, and their interaction with other linguistic units. Furthermore, the potential application of innovative methodological approaches and research methods to broaden our understanding of part-of-speech classification in Turkish is discussed.
